Biography

Kuanysh Raimkulovich Esirkeev was born on 14th of November of 1947 in Balkhash, Zhezkazgan Region. His mother was a clothes modeler, and the father was an artist.
Kuanysh was the oldest child.
In 1949 the family moved to Karaganda. At the age of seven he went to school No. 7.
Since the childhood Kuanysh loved to draw horses, dogs, cats and other animals living at his yard. He was making good grades in school. At the same time he entered the nearby art school.

After finishing the 8th grade, he went to Almaty Art College to Painting Department. By the 3rd year he began to develop the creative thinking and art identity, which has not always been taken well by his teachers.
After the graduation he was sent to the Surikov Moscow Art Institute. That was the time of his life when he began searching for form, linear drawing, and color.
However, he had to drop out of the Institute because his "pretentious" style , as it was called at that time, was blamed.
After coming back to Karaganda, he was taken to military service to Saint-Petersburg, and then to Kiev. The true raise of the artist's work begins after the military service. He already had the work conception, his drawing style was well developed, he had mastery and experience.

He spends the entire days in his studio, making sketches, thinking of new ideas. His high level of self-criticism makes him rework the sketches again and again, even when it seemed perfect. He becomes secluded and doesn't leave the studio for weeks making himself physically and mentally exhausted. His work made during the latter years frighten one by their intense color. One almost can feel that not normal, that changed state of consciousness, in which the author was in the process of creating the work.
The unknown sense of touching the other alien reality incomprehensible by regular senses and formal logic overwhelms the viewer. Behind the canvas one can see the other space and time, with other rules, the space where the person's knowledge and experience mean nothing…
